Murphy Bed Matching Desk & Cabinet Do-it-Yourself
This Desk is high quality and built out of 3/4 inch Birch Plywood. All exposed edges are edge banded with Birch veneer. The overall width of the upper and lower cabinet is 64 inches. The lower cabinet has two 17 inch wide by 20 inch deep base cabinets The one on the left has two file drawers and the one on the right has a pencil and a door on the bottom. These bases can be changed to any configuration of file, pencil drawers and doors.The pull out keyboard tray is the full width between the base cabinets 28 inches. I use mine to keep papers that I am working on and not for the keyboard. The counter top is purchased at Lowes and cut down to 64 inches and the ends are laminated on it. I like the Travertine color look but they offer several in stock. If you want something out of stock there is an up-charge. The countertop is the only part that has any particle board in it, I buy this direct from Lowes. it is attached by screwing into the bottom thru the base cabinets. The upper cabinet has a 24 X 24 inch opening in the middle, sized for a picture. there is a ledge on the bottom for small items. The two sides are 18 inches wide by 24 inches high, with an adjustable shelf in the middle. I rabbit out the backs of the two side and slide in 1/4 Birch plywood for backs. The center I leave open. The top and bottom of the cabinet has a plenum with a 3 1/4 trim board going all the way around top and bottom for a clean finished look. The total height of the upper is 30 inches. The unit comes with a florescent light in the center and a 2 3/8 hole with Black grommet in the center back of the countertop for wiring. The top cabinet can be set at any height off the countertop but I prefer between 18 to 24 inches, depending on how tall you are. Oak is 5% more, cherry and maple are 25% more. This kit is precut and drilled so all you need to do is screw it together and to the wall Can be sold with or without countertop.
